Quantum of the Seas
Textil Bau also supplied various membrane structures for the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany, the Quantum of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean International. Here too, the structures had to meet a wide range of requirements and were designed and implemented in close consultation with the architects in accordance with their specifications.
For example, the terrace at the rear of Deck 14 was fitted with a membrane structure measuring approx. 60 m², providing travellers with ample shade on the high seas. Supports with varying inclines and curved profiles in the roof plane give the entire structure its curved shape. The membrane roof resembles a wave form in its course.
On the open deck in the middle of the ship, a stage area was covered next to the pool area to connect decks 14 and 15. The elliptical shape of the base structure was also given curved intermediate elements to give the membrane sufficient shape and curvature. One level higher, on the opposite side, a round, side-glazed lift was fitted with a membrane roof.
A total of approximately 120 m² of membrane surface area was installed for the Quantum of the Seas.
The following structures were implemented:
- Sun deck/bar: 'Windjammer'
- Canopies: 'North Star', 'Bandstand'
