For the 2013 International Building Exhibition in Hamburg, Textil Bau GmbH created the movable roof and facade construction for the IBA Softhouse. This consists of 32 individual membrane strips made of fibreglass mesh, which serve as shading elements. Photovoltaic modules are integrated into the upper part of these strips. These are continued on the roof on glass fibre reinforced plastic elements (GRP boards). The photovoltaic modules can be adjusted in terms of inclination and orientation on the roof and on the facade strips to follow the position of the sun. This is achieved by a hydraulic system that deforms the substructure on the roof and facade accordingly.
