After Textil Bau had already fitted the seal enclosures at Frankfurt Zoo with a shading system back in 2021, Munich’s Hellabrunn Zoo followed suit shortly afterwards. There, too, the aim was to provide the seals with better protection from UV radiation in their outdoor enclosure. To this end, Textil Bau initially installed four motorised, retractable sun sails. The system has since been expanded to include a fifth sail.

The sails are rolled up and down via motorised shafts that divide each sail diagonally. The individual sails can be extended and retracted at any time, independently of one another, either by remote control or automatically.

A connected weather station also ensures reliable protection of the system against overload. The sun sails are mounted on powder-coated aluminium supports and thus blend in with the outdoor enclosure both functionally and visually.
