The part of the building referred to as the forum is a two-storey central square between several buildings on the grounds of the University of Education in Ludwigsburg. In the early 1970s, a textile roof was erected here, which is partly stored on the square and partly on the open space below. Five curved beams radiate outwards from a central foundation. Five saddle-shaped membrane panels are stretched between the beams and anchored at two points with steel cables to additional foundations.

Based on the old geometry, the entire supporting structure was redesigned, including all connection details. The previous curved glued laminated timber beams were replaced by a slim steel tube construction, and the textile roof structure was completely redesigned. The membrane construction was manufactured and installed by Textil Bau GmbH.
