Stage roof "Hochzeitshaus" terrace

Stage roof "Hochzeitshaus" terrace

An architectural competition to redesign the pedestrian zone and the "Hochzeitshaus" (wedding house) terrace in Hameln resulted in a public tender for Textil Bau GmbH to build a 78 m² six-point sail. The roof serves as a canopy for concerts and theatre performances.

The installation of the membrane structure on the newly redesigned sandstone terrace of the Hochzeitshaus, located between the old market church and the historic Hochzeitshaus, took two days. With the help of a large crane and two experienced fitters, the artwork became a reality before the eyes of curious passers-by.

The structure, consisting of two tensioned supports, each with a crossbeam and a membrane stretched between them, has polarised the city's population. Some think it is a waste of money, while others love this modern structure nestled among the venerable buildings in the heart of Hameln.

At the request of the city, the roof will be dismantled for the winter to make room for the Christmas market. The membrane roof will be rebuilt the following spring.
